Will e-readers replace real books?

This question was asked on a forum and I thought I would turn my answer into a blog, however be advised that what follows is just my opinion.

Apparently the Kindle, Sony e-reader, Nook, etc were the hottest selling gift item this holiday season, and one of the posters had watched a TV show promoting them where an expert said this is the digital age, paper books werebecoming a thing of the past. He pointed out advantages of e-readers is that they can hold up to 1500 booksand downloading books is cheaper than buying paper books; apparently some authors are writing specifically for e-readers now.

So what do I think... will e-readers replace real books?

I have an sony reader and I love it, I got it about 9 months ago, we even have one in the school library (love the sony- not keen on kindle: some things I have read about them disturbs me- including an article where people had bought 1984 and then someone discovered they didn't have the right to sell it, and they withdrew it- including stopping access to all who bought it, because it is all stored online... eeek, but in a book shop if you bought it you bought it- to me it seems like renting the rights to read the book, but that is only my opinion, with the ereader all my books are mine and stored on my pc)I am certain Kindles suit a lot of people, but they are not widely known in the uk, sony is bigger here, helped no doubt by them being backed by Waterstones.

I love paper books too, and I see them as complimentary, I will still buy books I want to keep in paper, but books that I may read once I will get in e copy- it makes travelling so much easier, I just have my reader and the charger and about 400 books! LOL

I bought an 8GB SD card for mine and it has about 150 on at the moment and nowhere near full, the SD card makes it so easy to transfer books, I just shove it in the lappy, put them on, take out, and put in the reader and tadaa.... there they are, you can also transfer books directly to the reader using the library software it comes with, it also come with 100 free books! Classics... and some great reads there.

Also books over 100 years old are out of copyright and you can usually get free e editions, which is great for me as I love Austin, Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes! (It's the English Teacher coming out in me! :D)

Eventually yes I do think paperless books will become the norm and paper books something special, but perhaps that is what it should be, space for many people is becoming a premuim, and I have 2 suitcases of books in the shed- these are to sell as second hand, I already donated about 4 boxes worth to a charity shop when I moved. I just didn't have room for them... even now I am running out of book shelves, hampers, etc. The eformat means I can get what I want, and read it where ever I want!

The only thing I would say is get a decent cover, I didn't like the tan (shit) brown one mone came with, I bought a cute pink one with a stand so I can read and stand it on a table, which is handy sometimes... (I have recipes on it too)

You can also put your own stuff on, type it in word and convert to a pdf... ooo and you can put pictures (black and white currently) and music on it! Handy for those who love audio books.

The screen is designed to be able to be read whichever way you tilt it, but as it is not back lit it does not hurt your eyes, however it does require good light to read. You can buy a cover which has an inbuilt screen light, I know people who have bought these and LOVE them- it means they can read in the dark and not disturb their partners... me.... I turn the light on!

Have I sold you on them yet?

From page 59 of Spidertouched- Jory Strong

"Once again the force and suddenness of the desire, the intensity of the fantasy, shook him. Only this time his uneasiness was met with a wall of lust, a lava-hot need that had built up over centuries and wouldn’t be denied."

Ghostland- the Review.

"In a post-Apocalyptic world where supernaturals have emerged from hiding, wealthy humans delight in decadence while the religious gain power through temptation. For the masses, fear reigns from birth to death, and the afterlife holds beings that only the bravest can summon—or dare to desire…

Taken from her home and family, shamaness Aisling McConaughey has no choice except to enter the “ghostlands” in order to learn the fate of a wealthy man’s mistress. But there is always a price to pay for the use of her power. To save the woman’s life she must summon the Djinn prince Zurael en Caym—and yield to his savage, sensual rage.

Zurael fears nothing except being called and bound to a human’s will. He intends to kill Aisling after she’s served as bait to find an enemy in possession of an ancient tablet. But the more he tastes of her innocent spirit, the more he’ll use his fiery touch and seductive whispers to keep her hungry for his mercy—even as they weave an erotic spell that he cannot escape…

Powerful forces threaten both their worlds, leaving Aisling and Zurael with an unbearable choice. Follow their hearts…or stay true to their honor and risk losing an eternity of pleasure."

I FINALLY finished it, it feels like I have been reading it for ages, which for me is probably true, however with all the Christmas and work commitments which are thrust on us I hardly had time to start this book in earnest. But I did whilst I was camp-bedding at my brothers. (You have to love family Christmases, I finished the book but my back is killing me.) Anyway, back to the book...

I have made no secret of the fact I like the work of Jory Strong and this book was no different, at 155 pages it was not overly long and for those wanting a smut rating; your cup will runeth over, Zurael, once he got going, was lusty and Aisling was very willing to let him have his way. Not to say she was a submissive, well ok when he tied her down, but for all her quiet ways she was brave and stood alone. An interesting story in a post apocalypic world where religion rules where the lawless don't. Aisling is given the task of saving the major's mistress, but like all good stories this task develops into a hunt, in this book a hunt for those who are condemning people to death through the production of the drug ghost.

Aisling takes on many trials because of the system required for batering protection, at one point she protects herself with Zurael, he swears to kill her in revenge, but finds he can't. As he discovers they are just 2 small cogs in wheels which turn to bring a new era to mankind. Helped throughout by her mysterious pet Azriel (who goes missing at the end of the book- I hope we see more of him in a future book) they fall in love, have lots of sex, catch the bad guys, find out who Aisling's father was, and finally get together.

I have book 2 "Spider-Touched" I intend to start it soon.

I really should have a rating sysytem... I give Ghostland 4 pink knickers out of 5! A definite damp panty read!

Ashes of Midnight

As night falls, Claire Roth flees, driven from her home by a fiery threat that seems to come from hell itself. Then, from out of the flames and ash, a vampire warrior emerges. He is Andreas Reichen, her onetime lover, now a stranger consumed by vengeance. Caught in the cross fire, Claire cannot escape his savage fury--or the hunger that plunges her into his world of eternal darkness and unending pleasure.

Nothing will stop Andreas from destroying the vampire responsible for slaughtering his Breed brethren . . . even if he must use his former lover as a pawn in his deadly mission. Blood-bonded to his treacherous adversary, Claire can lead Andreas to the enemy he seeks, but it is a journey fraught with danger--and deep, unbidden desires. For Claire is the one woman Andreas should not crave, and the only one he's ever loved. A dangerous seduction begins--one that blurs the line between predator and prey, and stokes the flames of a white-hot passion that may consume all in its path. . . ."

I was curious about this book, Reichen had been an interesting and very insense character, but he had never been one of my faves, so I was interested in where this would go. After the devistation to his family would he ever be able to pull things together and make a life, but that seems to have been the least of his problems as we discover.

The role of Wilhelm Roth in the story as counterpoint to Reichen is a strong one, particularly as we see the madness which resides in him, and how it affects the larger war the breed warriors face.

Another great book Lara!

Pleasure Unbound

Pleasure Unbound- Larissa Ione

"In a place where ecstasy can cost you your life . . . She's a demon-slayer who hungers for sensual pleasure-but fears it will always be denied her. Until Tayla Mancuso lands in a hospital run by demons in disguise, and the head doctor, Eidolon, makes her body burn with unslakable desire. But to prove her ultimate loyalty to her peers, she must betray the surgeon who saved her life. Two lovers will dare to risk all. Eidolon cannot resist this fiery, dangerous woman who fills him with both rage and passion. Not only is she his avowed enemy, but she could very well be the hunter who has been preying upon his people. Torn between his need for the truth and his quest to find his perfect mate before a horrific transformation claims him forever, Eidolon will dare the unthinkable-and let Tayla possess him, body and soul . . ."

First of all I must thank my friend V... if it was not for her I would NEVER have come across this series, well ok, I probably would EVENTUALLY, but it would have taken longer; as it was she recommended it in July, I bought it and thanks to my huge TBR pile I only just got to it. Now I wished I had put it at the top of the pile, I loved it! So much so, three minutes after finishing it was online ordering the next 2!

So why did I go nuts for it, perhaps I should start with my addiction to it, I get up for work at 6am, on Wednesday night I was reading it until after 1am, I just could not put it down, I had to know where the story was going.

The world Ione creates is intruiging and interesting, the demons are given a mythology which is briefly covered in this book, discussing how they came into being, and as Tayla learns more about them so do we. Full of twists and turns, some more obvious than others, we journey through an attraction which buldozers through what the protagonists think they should believe, and that is part of the fun, will they give in.... or will they fight.

Backed by interesting, and addictive brothers we hope to see more of, Eilodon fights the change which will turn him into a monster, meets a girl, solves a mystery and does it all with a sexy swagger. Tayla discovers life is not what it appears and finds what she didn't know she had been searching for all her life.

I know I am talking in gerneralisations, but I loved it so much I don't want to spoil it for anyone who has not read it.

If you want a taster there is an extract on Ione's web page I also found she posts deleted scenes!!! Got to love an extra treat. click here!

Smut of the Month- December 09

"Book 1 in the series Trek Mi Q'an

Modern day Earth woman Kyra Summers is kidnapped and wed by a seven-foot tall, thickly muscled warrior claiming to be her Sacred Mate. Life on his home planet Tryston takes some getting used to, as the laws of the world cater to erotic hedonism and leave females at the sexual subjugation of the barbarians who claim them.

No one said love with an alien would come easily. Enjoy Kyra's spicy escapades as she adjusts to life and love in another dimension."

A blast from the past, but I was talking to bearsy about favourite books, and I had to include this, so out of posterity, because it is Christmas and because bothe the book and Jaid Black are amazing I tribute December's Smut of the Month to the Trek Mi Q'an series.

I first came across Jaid Black in an anothology containing the first BAD(Bureau of American Defense) story by Sherrilyn Kenyon, it was they story of a female soldier wo crash lands and ends up in the underground world of a Viking Clan, she is auctioned off, finds true love and I really enjoyed it. I then went on line and looked for more of Jaid Black, I found this series (and Elora's cave!).

The Empress' New Clothes, is fun, erotic, sexy and has that hint of danger. The characters are engaging and that is needed in a story of suc imagination, Jaid Black deals sensitively with a plot that could be difficult, but you find such love in the characters that you believe in what happens to them and that it will all work out for the best. Whilst the males in the early books are such male chauvinists you can see their world changing as you read future stories. I have every book in the series, and I heard rumours that there will be a new one soon.... I can only hope, I need to know what happens next!

If it is not on your Christmas list, add it... I am off to read it again!

Click here if you would like to read an extract.

Me and My Shadow

"May Northcott is a woman at the end of her rope. She’d almost gotten used to her employer, the ex-demon lord Magoth, spending his days hanging around her home and interrupting her private moments with her dragon lover Gabriel. Then trouble appears in the form of a nearly dead man on her doorstep.

With May fighting to control the dragon shard, Magoth wrangling to regain his position and powers, and a mysterious and deadly dragon bent on their destruction, Gabriel has his work cut out for him. Now, he’ll have to claw his way through all the distractions and convince May that their love is strong enough to conquer all of their enemies."

I love Katie MacAlister's books, why, because f the humour and characterisation, any book which as me hunting for when the next is out and the laughing at a demon dog is for me, that and the fact Drake is sex on legs and can give me his fire any time. That is how I came to these books through the Aisling Grey series, and whilst I do enjoy the silver dragon books hugely, my favourite characters are still those from the first novels, Jim, Aisling and Drake. This book is hugely entertaining and packed with story, Aisling finally gives birth, Kosta declares his love for someone and we find out more about Baltic.

What intrigues me more is where this series is going, the extract from the new book which is hidden at the back of the book, a story where Baltic (the enemy) is a hero! I know! I so want t read this one.

An enticing intriguing read!

"MacKayla Lane lies naked on the cold stone floor of a church, at the mercy of the erotic Fae master she once swore to kill. Far from home, unable to control her sexual hungers, MacKayla is now fully under the Lord Master's spell. In the New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning's stunning new novel, the walls between human and Fae worlds have come crashing down. And as Mac fights for survival on Dublin's battle-scarred streets, she will embark on the darkest-and most erotically charged-adventure of her life.

He has stolen her past, but MacKayla will never allow her sister's murderer to take her future. Yet even the uniquely gifted sidhe-seer is no match for the Lord Master, who has unleashed an insatiable sexual craving that consumes Mac's every thought-and thrusts her into the seductive realm of two very dangerous men, both of whom she desires but dares not trust.

As the enigmatic Jericho Barrons and the sensual Fae prince V'lane vie for her body and soul, as she rallies the sidhe-seers to fight an impossible battle, and the power of the Dark Book weaves its annihilating path through the city, Mac's greatest enemy delivers a final challenge...

It's an invitation Mac cannot refuse, one that sends her racing home to Georgia, where an even darker threat awaits. With her parents missing and the lives of her loved ones under siege, Mac is about to come face-to-face with a soul-shattering truth-about herself, and about the world she thought she knew."

OMG! But that synopsis says it all, seductive, spell binding and addictive, I could not put it down! How do you get outof sex addiction.... you have lots of dirty sex until you remember who you are. Who is Jericho Barrons? I am not one for theories, but they keep mentioniing the fourth prince and hearing a voice and it does make you wonder, but what do I know!

I know I love this series! Full of twists with a final eart stopping moment at the end, just who was that on the floor!

Bearsy's M/M meme

So the naughty Sparkilybearsy tagged me to do this M/M meme, I too am a novice with this genre, but in for a penny in for a pound

1. Answer all the questions below in either the comments here or post it on your own site. If you post it on your own site you have to come back and give the link here so I can mosey on over and see if you have a sticky beak.

2. You have to tag two other people once you’re done and pester them relentlessly until they do the meme too.

3. Instead of a meme image thing you have to post a cookie, preferably a twofer. It is an m/m meme after all.

Here i give you a delish cookie -

I am SO excited

I love paranormal, vampires werewolves magic and myths: my favourite legend is King Arthur, so you can imagine I love Angela Knight's Mageverse books, and the next one in the series is out in May!

Giada Shepherd is a Maja – an immortal witch of the Mageverse. When vampire knight King Arthur asks her to protect his mortal son from an assassin, she’s willing to do anything she must to keep Logan MacRoy alive. But Logan is no ordinary mortal – he’s a handsome seductive cop, intent on a romance with his beautiful new partner.

Trouble is, Arthur has ordered Giada to keep her distance from Logan. But that’s a lot easier said than done....

I have read the rest of the series and if you want something fun, sexy and full of action then this may be the series for you. Any vampire warrior who must live off blood and sex can try and see if I am a mage any time of the week. Set in a paralel Mageverse Arthur and his knights and Maja protect the human real from all kinds of demons and beasties, helped by Dire Wolves, a couple of Dragons and Fey they strive to battle evil. Turned into Vampiric immortal warriors by a now abset Merlin and Nimue Arthur et al create a fun pack. To survive they must drink the blood of the maja, their female equivilent who require sex and blood release to survive. It is a FUN symbiotic relationship. Sadly my poor explanation does not do it justice. Perhaps I need to dig out Master of Swords, it is my favourite... now where did I put it?

Smut of the Month

An oldie but a goodie!

Book 3 in the Supernatural Bonds series.

"Mystery and fantasy writer, collector of crystals and believer in magic, Sophie Alexander can't resist the lure of trying to find the legendary Chalice of Enos. She feels compelled to hunt for the Dragon's Cup even though the mysterious and dangerous Severn Damek is after it too. Little does she know she's on a collision course with a supernatural being straight from one of her novels.

Dragon prince, elusive billionaire, Severn Damek has a reputation for being ruthless when it comes to getting what he wants. The fertility of his race is tied to the Chalice of Enos and he's determined to recover the priceless treasure. It's the ultimate prize, or so he thinks until he encounters Sophie. The moment he sees her, Severn is engulfed in the fiery flames of lust. She's his mate and he intends to possess both her and the Dragon's Cup."

I love this book but then I love the writings of Jory Strong, one of the books I am about to start is her Ghostland, I have high expectations: Sophie's Dragon is one of my favourite stories of hers, something I can read again and again. Why? I guess part of it is my fascination with Dragons and I do love the hero Severn Damek, he can tie me to the bed any day of the week and that is not something I say lightly! But what I think makes this book stand out for me is that whilst Sophie does submit to his dominance often she does not lose herself, nor does she do what she is told. They become a partnership, and even he learns that some things are worth more than treasure, not only that but this is a well crafted story. If you like witty characters, hot and heavy sex and dragons, this is the book for you!

The Road Ahead

Okies, I guess some might call this my mission statement, either that or it is just waffle... anyhooo, who am I? I am an avid reader and writer and I have decided to revamp (ooo vamp..mmmmm) my blog to give book reviews. I read all sorts, from Pride and Prejudice to Pride Prejudice and Zombies, although I am a paranormal, urban romance addict, add that to some erotica and I am a happy bunny!

I love paperbacks, hardbacks and my sony ereader so expect a variety of reviews. Please don't take them seriously but in the fun way they are intended.

Don't miss my SMUT of the month! A girl must have her erotica!
