"Thirty females of the Ophidian race have gone missing, most from the transient nest of Las Vegas, a rogue and unofficial nest run by the Saint, John Merrick. Believed to be dead by every Archon in the states, Merrick leads a quiet and unassuming life, saving those of his race that are lost and need it most. It's a solitary existence, one that he hates every day. He yearns for his mate, the woman he left over a decade before, and the woman who thinks him dead to this day.
When Elise Rizdon gets the official invitation to the Archon meeting in Ohio by the leader of a new Midwestern nest, she never expected to see the love of her life at the woman's side, a man she was told was dead and buried. She lost him once upon a time, and she never fully recovered. Focusing on the issues, and not the man that has always made her body burn is not going to be easy. A disturbing event is on the horizon, one that threatens all Ophidian's and their way of life. In order to survive they will have to work together, give up old grudges and take chances on the things that matter most. Love, life and the continuation of their race."
An interesting read with a different tone to the other Weresnakes books I have reviewed. This one is more plot driven and follows the trials of multiple main characters, on top of the relationship of Elise and Merrick we have Myra and Aidan and Evelyn and Homer. The plot itself is full of twists and turns, some bigger than others! The story is mostly set at the meeting of the Archon's where they need to work out how to find the girls and save their race. This is intercut with the compound where the girls are being held and where we find Evelyn Rose (model) has been kidnapped.
The Archon's need to put aside their differences, particularly Elise who must struggle with the knowledge that her dead lover is alive, with the help of their respective nests they discover the truth about the Lamia Cult. The introduction of the 'goddess' Delphyne creates a new element in the culture of the snakes and the plot of the story, I have a feeling that this won't be the last we see of her.
The characters are lovable and relatable, you want them to succeed to pair up and find mates. The mystery nature and style of the plot made it a page turner and one I would have finished much earlier if work had not have intruded!
Even so, I never lost the plot of the story which I believe says a lot for it's construction.
A unique, sexy and interesting romantic mystery which I thoroughly enjoyed. I give it 4 pink panties out of 5.
