Succubus Shadows- The Review

By Richelle Mead

Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Immortality, seduction, shape-shifting into any human form she desires, walking in heels that would cripple mere mortals—all child’s play to a succubus like her.

Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend’s wedding is a different story. Georgina isn’t sure which is worse—that Seth is marrying another woman, or that Georgina has to run all over Seattle trying on bridesmaid dresses. Still, there are distractions. Georgina’s roommate, Roman, is cluttering her apartment with sexual tension. Then there’s Simone, the new succubus in town, who’s intent on corrupting Seth.

But the real danger lies in the mysterious force that’s visiting her thoughts, trying to draw her into a dark, otherworldly realm. Sooner or later, Georgina knows she’ll be too weak to resist. And when that happens, she’ll discover who she can trust, who she can’t—and that Hell is far from the worst place to spend eternity…

I do consider myself lucky that I was in Borders with my friend L and she pointed to the book Succubus Blues and said 'That one is quite good,' from L that is like a spotlight and magical music; so I bought it... and loved it. So why am I lucky? Because I have had the joy of this series for a couple of years and if you have not met Georgina and her friends then you must!

Why does this series work? It is a curious question I have set myself because much of the series revolves around a will they won't they HEA plot between Georgie and Seth, more off than on this plot of unrequited love is a constant which connects the books together, each novel having it own storyline which runs its course in the book. You know what I mean. Alongside this you have a host of human, demon and heavenly characters who make Georgie's world most entertaining!

I really enjoyed this book, it is another read which managed to get me through cramps... perhaps that should be a new rating-'better than purple pills'-?? But it is true, life made it difficult for me to start to read the book, a couple of pages here, a couple there, but I was soon hooked and pulled into the story. What was haunting Georgie? Would she be able to help Maddie with the wedding to Seth? Would I cry? Almost!

At the beginning of the novel Georgina's romance with Seth is over, after their affair, Seth has proposed to Maggie and she has accepted. However other than for Georgina's supernatural friends and Seth's family, no-one knows about their romance. SO Maggie assumes her best friend will be her bridesmaid and help her plan the wedding. If this wasn't torture enough Georgie is being stalked by something, and there is a new succubus in town.

The plot is engaging, as are the characters and their dilemas. The question of Georgina's contract appears again, this time with a new twist to link to the next novel, we are also left with questions about Seth and his relationship to Georgina. I would say more but I would spoil it... yes I know I am rambling but my mind is so full of questions I want answering and I love it!!!

One of the things I feel is nice about this book is we find out more about Roman, Georgina's once lover and sociopathic room-mate, perhaps he does have a heart after all. I must admit he is one of my favourite side characters along with Carter the irreverent angel. All I can say is... if you have not read this series before, give it a go. I can't recommend it highly enough.

4.5 pink panties out of 5, a frilly panty read with sparkly bows!

Pleasure of A Dark Prince

By Kresley Cole

Lucia the Huntress: as mysterious as she is exquisite, she harbors secrets that threaten to destroy her—and those she loves.

Garreth MacRieve, Prince of the Lykae: the brutal Highland warrior who burns to finally claim this maddeningly sensual creature as his own.

From the shadows, Garreth has long watched over Lucia. Now, the only way to keep the proud huntress safe from harm is to convince her to accept him as her guardian. To do this, Garreth will ruthlessly exploit Lucia’s greatest weakness—her wanton desire for him. . . .

Another book in this series which I liked, once you get through the prologue the novel itself begins with "Munro, you daft git pass the ball!" made me laugh and I kept on chuckling. The story runs concurrently with A Hunger Like No Other, so in the early point of the book it does tackle the same storyline of Lachlain and Emma, either from a differet angle, or it is glossed over as exposition. It is a small portion of the novel and in a way it was nice to recap what had gone on before, it was certainly nice to see Lachlain and Emma again, Bowen even makes a cameo.

Gareth is strong and determined, like the lykae we have met before, he does not hide the fact that before his brother vanished he had a bit of a murky past which earned him the title of Dark Prince. He does however seem more restrained than the others, this is hinted at when he refused to become king after his brother's supposed death. This control makes for a very interesting make and a doubly interesting read. Lucia is equally determined and hiding many secrets, her BFF Regin the Radiant knows most of them but not all, to win her Gareth has to fight her fear, prejudices and her secrets. And they are good ones!

I really enjoyed the interplay between both of them, they make their interest in each other very clear and build on it like smoldering embers and the sexy scenes in the book are smouldering.

Backed up by engaging secondary characters this book creates a solid plot full of secrets, mistrust and twists. It is also building an overreaching story arc, whilst we have a finite ending for this tale, there are open questions leading us into the next book out in August. Since I thoroughly enjoyed it all I can say is bring on the ascension!

A throughly good read! I give it 4 pink panties out of 5. A damp panty read!

Could Gargoyles be the next big thing?

I was reading a guest blog on The Geeky Bookworm this morning about various things, but part of it was that some publishers believe that the day of the vampire paranormal romance could be drawing to a close... so if they are right.. and I do say IF... what could be next? We have already seen a major influx of demons, weres, gods, etc.. all of which I LOVE. On the blog the idea of Gargoyles was floated, but how could you make it work...

if you haven't already looked at it CLICK HERE for the original blog and my replies alongside those of others...

Anyway I have been thinking of it all day (Susi this is your fault) and I think I have a concept... like it or loathe it I am putting it out there... would you read about gargoyles and are gargoyles the next big thing? (yip I know some authors have already written about them, there are a few mentioned in the blog and I have heard from friends of a couple more- I have not read any so I hope this does not tread on anyones toes.)

Traditionally in architecture gargoyles were placed on buildings to protect them and the inhabitants, they were mainly on religious buildings and were to ward off evil. The mythology states that if they come to life they are animated but still 'monsters'- or in the world of Terry Pratchett (one that I have read, they are always alive and made of stone and filter the gutters and downpipes for food... aka vermin!)

My idea however deviates completely from the myth of them being constant monsters.

Imagine this...knights from another world battling in a war against 'Gargoyles' their mortal enemy- the war rages across space and time and they end up battling on Earth during the Dark Ages. They have with them a magical weapon (an egg of some sorts which holds a creation power and needs to be used with a spell and a solar eclipse) this is to be used under dire emergencies only. The Solar Knights enlist the help of human druids, as spies and to help with magic against the gargoyles. They have everything set, the final battle which will rid earth of the Gargoyles out to destroy it, the solar eclipse is upon them and.... someone gets over excited and opens the egg without the spell!

It turns the 'Gargoyles' to stone but also curses them to the same fate, they don't realise this until dawn breaks and they morph into stone monsters! The spell would have protected them, but as the spell was not uttered they become a mix of Solar Knight and Gargoyle- a new species. The druids were not affected as they were of earth, only beings from their world who were in the battle were.

Each night they turn back into Solar Knights, the druids help them, forming an order to protect them during the day and to help them find a way to break the curse/spell which binds them. Why? Because it was a druid who opened the egg without saying the spell.

Over the millenia they quest during the night to break the spell, they have kept in contact with their home planet- but have come to love earth and the women of earth. The spell having extended their lives making them immortal... in their current state they can not reproduce, they live in nests on buildings, unable to travel much as people will notice. The druids do much of the leg work! However some of the druids (500 years ago) became jealous of the power the gargoyles have and hunt them, persecuting humans to bring them out onto the streets, the blood of a solar warrior fueling their spells and giving them immortal life!

After that... gargoyle meets girl.... finds a way to mate? I have no idea where this would go... but I put it out there.

Needs a bit more thought... oh and btw all ideas are copyrighted Minx and will only be here for a limited time... :D

So could Gargoyles be the next big thing?

You Burn Me - ARC Review

By Stella and Audra Price

A priestess of The Morrigan, Xxieda Rolla is a woman who has known success in her business, fulfillment in her family life and is only missing one thing: the love of the man that would have her for always. Sent to Shadow Heights New York by her goddess to find him, she meets the ever tasty, ever surly Dante Barratt. Sparks fly, and so does Amaretto Latte.

Dante, a dealer of rare and illegal commodities, and a very tempestuous fire demon might want the woman who's brown eyes haunt him, but knows better then to get involved with someone who just screams purity. Shes hot, and successful in ways he never could be, and knows a man that just gave away his soul like he did didn't deserve a woman like that.

After a chance encounter on a dark street corner, and an earth shattering kiss, Both are powerless to deny the chemistry between them... until Xxieda tells him her secret: shes a virgin.

Caught between his head and his heart, can Dante accept the fact that Fate sometimes gives us exactly what we really need, not what we think we want?

ARC Provided by author

Something different from the sisters Price, not different in the sense it completely deviates from their style or their character arcs but in the sense this book was completely romantic, and I enjoyed it.

It had a leisurely pace which suited the story arc and the subtly of the characters, although subtle is perhaps not the right work for Dante, on first impression he has the subtlety of a sledge hammer. However much like his demon fire the heat and harshness is on the outside, as Xxieda (Zi-ee-dah) says he is a nice guy, and sorry Dante, once someone gets into your heart, you are! Live with it!

Apologies... I seem to have got into ramble mode. The characters of X and Dante are engaging as are the side characters, we meet Feyd again (raawr) and Ash who helps X underwear shop, and we are introduced to a group of new characters, Peyton X's sister and seemingly her man guru when needed, even though they only talk on the phone they seem to have a real sisterly relationship, Rhys (rawwr) X's alocholic best friend and rock singer, he is forever in trouble and getting over the death of is fiance, I hear he has his own book coming up, (he is a powerful medium) we also briefly meet Winter and Lysandra, Winter a member of the band and twin of Rhys's dead fiance, Lysandra Rhys's body guard who hints at being some kind of were- I could be wrong.

For those who might be concerned with the the fact that she is a virgin who suddenly turns into a harlot and seduces her man, don't the whole thing is handled sensibly and sensitively. Xxieda's attempts at flirtation is fun, and usually ends in violence, she is no wilting violet. Dante insults her the first time he sees her, so she pours coffee in his crotch. Sounds good to me!

An interesting and romantic novella, I give it 3.5 pink knickers out of 5. A frilly panty read.

First Drop of Crimson - the Review

By Jeaniene Frost

The night is not safe for mortals.

Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows – her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield – and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s dark past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness – and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who craves a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human – even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the demon nightmare together…

Because once the first drop of crimson falls, they will both be lost.

I liked it! There said it! I know some people liked bits or were a bit so so about the book, or mainly the character of Denise and whilst I understand their concerns... I Liked it! I have to say I squeeeeed like a kid when I read that Spade came from my neck of the woods and could be my neighbour, I will keep an eye out for him. *wink* Why did I like it? Firstly I found the plot engaging and interesting, the race against time, the hiding from the demon hunting Denise, the search for Nathaniel, the discovery of what she could become and how to combat it. A chase which takes them across the world where a new challenge is around every corner. The characters and interesting and for the most part engaging. Yes Denise can be irritating, but after her husband was slaughtered by vampires, her family systematically targeted with suspicious deaths I can see where she is coming from, she equated vampires and all things which go bump in the night with death and destruction and wanted a normal life. A safe, boring life, a life where she doesn't have to feel or hurt again. But fate had different plans. In steps Raum, a demon with designs on her family- find Nathaniel or you all die. He brands Denise and she calls for help from the only person she can ask- who has changed her number, as has her husband and mother... in steps Spade!

As a knight in shining armour Spade is perfectly yummy! Tall, devious, dark mysterious and sexy. He doesn't want to be there to begin with, not for the reasons you might think. Turns out he was instantly attracted to Denise but warned off by Bones, and when a master vampire warns he means it. He also has his own reasons for not getting attached to humans, reasons which become very clear in the story as we find out more about him and his history.

The usual side characters appear, Ian is, well... Ian, but he does make me laugh, we have a cameo from Cat, Bones and Mencheres but any more than that would be telling.

If you want a fun book, filled with plot, pace and twisty turns then this could be the book for you. I am not saying it is a typical Cat and Bones story- so don't expect that, but as a tale of it's own it is a good read! If you still aren't certain the first 20% of the book is available free HERE.

I give it 4 pink panties out of 5. A frilly panty read!

Bitten By Cupid- the review

By Lynsay Sands, Pamela Palmer and Jaime Rush

With their very lives at stake, love was the last thing on their minds. But then they were Bitten by Cupid . . .

A daring vampire thinks she can conquer anything, but when she's paired with a mortal detective, she'll find her life - and her heart - in grave danger . . .

An innocent woman falls into the arms of a mysterious man when she can't get a killer's terrifying thoughts out of her head . . .

A stunning beauty should be thrilled when her lost love finally returns, but instead she fears for their immortal lives . . .

On Valentine's Day, some women want roses. But some just want to make it through the day alive. In Bitten By Cupid, New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands and newcomers Pamela Palmer and Jaime Rush present three tales of dangerous desire, where giving in to temptation could turn deadly, and even immortality won't keep you safe from Cupid's bow.

You all know how I feel about a good anthology and sadly I can't add this one to the list, oh I am not saying it is bad, it isn't, it's just very putdownable. Yes I know that can be a good trait in an anthology, finish a story, put down do stuff and come back- but between you and me it could be days before I came back. I started this before I read Wicked Enchantment. It's not that the stories are bad, I just didn't find them compelling. I mainly bought it for 'Vampire Valentine' by Lynsay Sands, the story of Mirabeau and Tiny. Tiny is one of my favourite background characters and I was pleased he was getting his own book. The story starts really well, they are at the illfated Argeneau nuptuauls (which hopefully actually happen and Leigh is pregnant again... woot!) Mirabeau and Tiny are paired to take Stephanie to Port Henry because she is still in danger from the no fanger Leonius Livius. They leave through the sewer and things start to go wrong. It has the potential to be great and up until this point is really quite pacy, Tiny is endearing Mirabeua has a very tempestuous and heart felt past and when they discover they are mates- they just accept it. They get to Port Henry and... it ends. I turned over the last page, because I was really enjoying it so far and wondered where the rest was. Shame because I really did enjoy it up to that point.

Hearts Untamed by Pamela Palmer was a new one for me Julianne is under thread from a creature called Melisande who appears in her mirror and insists she find a charm or be killed like she killed her parents before. Julianne struggles with this until Zeeland, love of her life who spurned her, returns to the compound, between them and with a little help from a mysterious wild shifter they solve the mystery of her parentage and save their lives. It was ok and clearly gearing up for a new series but I did find parts of it hard to get into.

Jaime Rush's Kiss and Kill Cupid was probably the one I was most engaged in. Kristy hears a serial killers thoughts and realises she is his next victim. Fast paced, full of twists and an unexpected outcome. WOuld say more but I would spoil it.

An ok book, but it didn't get my panties on fire, I say borrow it from your library or borrow mine. 1.5 pink panties out of 5 2 on a good day but only just.

Smut of the Month- April '10

By Sherri L King

Within the walls of a high-class hedonists' club, mousy Aerin Peters will find her sexual identity amidst the confusion of her mid-life crisis...

But all is not as it would seem within the walls of club Fetish. As Aerin grows closer to her fiendishly provocative escort, Violanti D'Arco, the dangers of her weekend retreats at the club become more apparent to her. She is haunted by her strange new friend and by Fetish itself. Unexplained memory lapses, an ever-growing addiction to Violanti's touch and tales of frightening sexual deviances will drive Aerin to investigate the enigmatic mystery of Fetish and its unseen owner...

Aerin's love, her heart, her very life may depend upon these answers. Because at Fetish, nothing is taboo.

Violanti is an incubus and a vampire, or at least whatever kind of beast both of those creatures would create, and yes he does wear the boots on the front cover in the book. Those and nothing else! Rawr! With the exception on 2 piercings, one in the nipple, one further south- both being made of silver, he says he likes the burn! Violanti is a compelling character even if he is very intense, you can understand exactly how Aerin falls for him, he gives her what she needs and then what she wants.

Aerin is an interesting character, her bio if you look at it on paper suggests someone needy, but when you read it she is a woman who know what she needs, an adventure, and she goes out looking for one. Through Violanti's attentions she becomes more confident, makes friends and finds a lover in Violanti. And what a lover!

OMG the sex scenes are hot! Especially as he keeps pushing her boundaries, creating powerful and erotic scenes which will have you hot under the collar!

I give this book 4 pink Knickers out of 5, the twists keep the book pacy the characters engaging and the sex hot! A damp panty read!

Wicked Enchantment- The Review

By Anya Bast

When you’re a half incubus, your reputation precedes you…

All eyes are on Gabriel Mac Braire the day he makes his first appearance in the Seelie Court, including those of Aislinn Finvarra. Despite deep bitterness over her last failed relationship, Aislinn cannot help but be curious about the half incubus who is known to possess dark magick, both lethal and sexual in nature. Rumors abound of the women who have become enslaved to his irresistible charms.

So when the Summer Queen of the fae orders Aislinn herself to act as his guide in the court, she is understandably on guard. She’s fallen under the spell of far less persuasive men before. In addition, Gabriel might be more than he seems and his true mission is far from innocent.

This time, Aislinn must protect not only her heart, but her very life…

I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Life has a way of interfering with reading and I lost my book vibe for a while... and this has just brought it back with a rush. I was excited for this series when I read Bella and Ronan's story in 'Hot for the Holidays' and I ordered Wicked Enchantment immediately. I was so excited when it arrived.I even did a little happy dance in the dining room.... and the curtains were open! Luckily I was dressed.

I love finding a new series to become addicted to and I think I have found that here. But why?

I found the characters of Aislinn and Gabriel likable and relatable. Odd when you think they are fae and incubus and live within the imprisoning walls of Piefferburg, but you do understand completely how they feel. When Aisling said her body was getting the pompoms out and was about to do a cartwheel I was hooked. Gabriel is strong and dominant and has his own secrets, Aislinn is no pushover even if she has been humiliated by her former lover. She holds herself with dignity and she too hides secrets, secrets she doesn't understand or know the solution too.

The side characters are interesting too, we meet Bella and Ronan again, find out more about the Summer Queen and the Shadow King and the effect they have on the lives of their subjects, Aislinn and Gabriel in particular. I don't want to say too much and spoil it for anyone who has not read it. We meet the Wild Hunt and I hope to hear more about them in future books, particularly as the next book seems to be about one of them, Aeric and and the assassin who killed his love. Should be a fun book!

The story is fast paced, a real page turned with many twists and turns, in the opening chapters Aislinn is trying to resist Gabriel's seduction whilst they fall for each other and both fight the attraction; she discovers information which puts her life at risk and her life changes completely. A story which takes her from one tower to another and from being a fae to being so much more!

I give it 4.5 pink knickers out of 5! And I want Gabriel!!!! He is so hot! Oh and Naill, Ronan's brother... *fans self* I hope he gets a book too! Go read it,,, get addicted then I shall have someone to talk to!

Minx xx
